In the early hours of the morning, The Sherburne Fire Department was alerted for a possible house fire on the Wales Road in a remote section of the district. All three chiefs, Engine 284, The Tower, The Tanker, Engine 282, and Engine 281 were all in route within minutes and Chief Lawrence upgrade the response to a full box assignment. The Chiefs arrived to find heavy smoke from the roof and as the Engine made the driveway the fire broke through. Engine 284 company quickly deployed the first line to the rear of the structure and made entry finding a large amount of fire in the ceiling area above the living room. The Truck Company and second due engine assisted with opening up the ceiling and roofing material while 284 performed extinguishment. 282 secured a water source to filling tankers and mutual aid reported to staging. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down but extensive overhaul was required due to the location of the fire in the roofing material and above the ceiling. While the living room sustained heavy damage the rest of the structure survived due to the quick response and proficiency of the volunteers. Sherburne received assistance on the scene from North Norwich Fire, New Berlin Fire, and the Chenango County Bureau of Fire. Smyrna Fire was on stand-by due to all of Sherburne's resources being committed.
It should be noted that 2891 (ALS) was returning from Hamilton Hospital at the time of the fire call and responded to the fire while 289 (ALS) handled another medical call on Summit St that was dispatched shortly after units arrived at the structure fire.
